			<description>&#60;p&#62;I am using a SSD for one of my laptops. It is said that using RAM disk for temporary files of system and internet browser is recommendable to minimize wear of SSD. Do you guys think eBoostr with system memory can do the same work as RAM disk dose? I think if eBoostr causes less hard drive access, it might substitute RAM disk for a system with SSD.

			<description>&#60;p&#62;I read a bit in this forum but it seems you do not have many netbook users besides me.&#60;br /&#62;
The Laptop I write this on is an MSI Wind U100 netbook&#60;br /&#62;
Following Config:&#60;br /&#62;
2GB Ram&#60;br /&#62;
Intel Atom n270 1.6gh&#60;br /&#62;
Intel Postvill G2 40GB SSD with newest Firmware (Trim support)&#60;br /&#62;
Win7 Ultimate 32bit&#60;br /&#62;
512mb Ram Cache Eboostr&#60;br /&#62;
200mb dataram Ramdisk used for temp,tmp,ie cache, firefox cache.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Average system speedup is reported as 46%&#60;br /&#62;
I mostly use this netbook for Firefox, Thebat, Adobe Lightroom (only if I am on Holidays) and some java apps.&#60;br /&#62;
the look an feel of the system is very pleasing.&#60;br /&#62;
And I think it helped the battery runtime a bit. I am over 8 hours on my 9cell with wlan and bluetooth.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I did try ebooster and ramdisk on my main system too....but it isn't as noticeable.&#60;br /&#62;
Seems like Win7 is using the 8gb ram and raid0 raptor harddisks with the 4gb usb cache allready very effectively.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;If you want me to run some tests, even some time consuming ones, tell me which and I will do it.....just give me a full-licence ;-)

			<title>chooky on "eboostr and Superfetch"</title>

			<description>&#60;p&#62;Just finished a round of testing eBoostr with several applications and investigation into performance with MS Superfetch turned off.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;For these tests I used &#60;a href=&#34;&#34;http://beta.eboostr.com/download/&#34;&#34;&#62;eBoostr 4 beta build 535&#60;/a&#62; with a 2GB RAM cache on Windows 7 x64 RTM with 2 x Vertex 30GB RAID 0.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;I used &#60;a href=&#34;&#34;http://www.passmark.com/products/apptimer.htm&#34;&#34;&#62;Passmark Apptimer&#60;/a&#62; to time application loading.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;&#60;img src=&#34;http://pxve3w.blu.livefilestore.com/y1pvWAoI3ZpSkOdcPMG0-zF7SjH8sPajjvZIithMTiFFB5kbEQcbGMbiP8xWpl8ez_tLCGfjuBjtFlqi1-3O9JvyCaqlHoDko3l/eboostr%20Superfetch.PNG&#34;&#62;&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;The results show that if you have an SSD it is for the most part better to have Superfetch turned off although some programs will suffer.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Adding an eboostr RAM cache decreased first load times by a good margin. Subsequent loads did not improve much. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Turning off Superfetch gave a further decrease in first and subsequent load times.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;My PC does feel snappier because eBoostr caches a lot of system files as well as programs.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Boot and shutdown times did not change by more than a second.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Other benchmarks like Passmark Performance Test or PCMark Vantage did not show any difference.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;More setup tips:&#60;br /&#62;
It is important not to use a USB cache only memory.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;It is also important to go to Edit -&#38;gt; Show cache content in the control panel and right click on entries for programs you don't use often, as well as C:\Windows\System32\catroot, and exclude them by path. This gives more cache space for programs you do want to speed up. Then rebuild the cache.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Check with the eBoostr Cache Statistics program in your start menu to make sure the programs you are testing are cached nearly 100%, right clicking the item and increasing priority if they are not, or they won't be faster.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;To get these sorts of SSD performance increases from a US$40 software solution is pretty amazing.

			<title>pajenn on "Ok to let SuperSpeed RamDisk and eBoostr each use part of unmanaged RAM?"</title>

			<description>&#60;p&#62;Current setup: I have a laptop with 4 GB of ram, of which 32-bit Windows XP can only manage 3 GB. I split the remaining gig into two 512 MB ramdisks using SuperSpeed (I had to enable PAE mode for it). When I heard about eBoostr, I decided to dedicate one of the RAM drives to it, plus another 512 MB of Windows managed memory, plus a 1 GB Kingston USB flash drive (FAT32). That's working fine -- no problems, but I have yet to determine the performace gain, if any.&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Question: Should I remove the SuperSpeed ramdisk dedicated to eBooster, and then let eBoostr rebuild its cache on the subsequently available unmanaged ram? Would that provide any benefit over my current setup? (fwiw, I do not have SuuperSpeed set to save the ram image at shutdown, although I did save it after eBoostr first built the cache on it).&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Concerns: I assume SuperSpeed and eBoostr both grab part of the unmanaged RAM at each Windows start-up if set to use it, and they load previously saved images or formats onto that ram. Any reason to suspect a conflict between them? If RAM is divided into permanent sectors or similar the way hard drives are, I'd expect SuperSpeed and eBoostr to both grab separate, pre-allocated sectors of it (so no conflict), but if they just search for the first available 512 MB of unmanaged RAM and then each try to use it, then I guess that could be a problem...

&#60;p&#62;Problems&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;1st install&#60;br /&#62;
eBoostr only allowed me to add 1 device if I tried to add USB after setting up memory USB replaced memory.&#60;br /&#62;
Cache build only lasted a second for memory and on completion there were no files in cache content.&#60;br /&#62;
Speed test showed no difference in speed.&#60;br /&#62;
Control panel showed no hit ratios.&#60;br /&#62;
Uninstalled, Reinstalled&#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;2nd Install&#60;br /&#62;
control panel reports eboostr service is not running.&#60;br /&#62;
eboostr service is not listed in administrative tools -&#38;gt; services. &#60;/p&#62;
&#60;p&#62;Hope this helps, I would like to see how it runs on Windows 7.
