Zeioth on "TUTORIAL: How ratio works"

The first thing you should know, is the maximum amount of ratio that your computer can reach, because this changes on each computer. For this, you must use only RAM memory in eboostr (any amount will work, I used 512 MB), and to make a "Speed test". The result will be maximum speed that you can reach on eboostr.

In my case, is ratio 21.0:

But RAM memory is expensive, and we need it for other uses. So, what we must pretend is to get closer to this number, but using different devices; Flash Memory, SSD, ESATA, hard discs, or little amounts of ram.

For example, this is my config:

I've used a 4GB hard disk, 16GB esata Flash disk throttle, and 1GB RAM. But you can use different config depending on the devices that you have, and how many files you want to cache. I hope that I helped with this topic! Please, feel free to ask or correct this in whatever is needed, I hope that we all can learn about this.

Notes:
-Ebostrs will cache the most used files in the fastest devices. Using little amounts of RAM usually means improvement of speed in the system. The rest of devices will cache heavier files, like games or programs.

-Is important to don't open programs, or play music while you're doing the "Speed test". Once you change the device, or created the cache, I recommend you to wait some minutes, or it could give wrong results.

Ok, there will be parameter "cacheupdateinterval" in settings.ini measured in seconds (next build).
BTW in current version you can add "idletimebuild" parameter to set up time of user inactivity before automatic build begins.

I agree. There doesn't seem to be a way to change the "every hour" cache building, but I'd like to see the time interval as a parameter that can be set in the settings.ini file. This should be easy to implement, but perhaps the development team will comment on this.

Then you suggest to exclude files, remember the main eBoostr purpose - make your system faster and more responsive.

I know the main goal of eboostr, and I try follow that goal. These are files that are usally in the background and are usally just read a few times anyways, or the ones I suggested are mostly.

eBoostr ranks accessed files by number of times they read in the system. So if you have such files in cache it means they are accessed for reading often.

(Warning its a "What If")
True and not true. Take zip and "installing" programs for example. These programs are usally read only once and then are kept as back up, or sometimes are read a few times over and over for what ever reasons (reinstalling from corruptions, or as backup). In that case, they are not needed usally and just take up space. Also, alot of the things I suggested are quit big in sizes, and from what I know about flash. It's better to keep things small for its random I/Os given that HDD do have a higher sequentail I/O just a way slower random for smaller files. (Do note: I said they all are bigger; I mean most are usally big.)

So the bottom line is: eBoostr adopts to your regular PC usage to optimize performance. You may prevent eBoostr from the best results playing with excudes lot.
Just let eBoostr work. We are adding more smart staitistics in every release.

Best said, I would edit my first post if I could to say this. Pluse anyways, these are just suggestions users could do if they wanted to. I never said eboostr should autoly exclude them or a user should.

Zeioth:
Not sure where the .ini file is anymore. Remember these are just suggestions and you should look at them to see if you have any of em in your cache befor you just start adding them to your exclude list. Also make sure thats what you want. Aka, graphics for example can be but are part of your program, so it be wise to keep em sometimes. Now loading images of your family, not as much, not usally or on "spurts" do you look at your images, then it be wise to go on and maybe have them excluded if they are in your cache.

Then you suggest to exclude files, remember the main eBoostr purpose - make your system faster and more responsive.

eBoostr ranks accessed files by number of times they read in the system. So if you have such files in cache it means they are accessed for reading often.

The latest version has more advanced rank logic. It uses load conditions at file access time and not incudes files read with low load conditions. Also there is "antispam" filter in system to protect from keeping all files due to antivirus and indexer reads.

So the bottom line is: eBoostr adopts to your regular PC usage to optimize performance. You may prevent eBoostr from the best results playing with excudes lot.

Excudes were added for two reasons:
1. Prevent from caching vital personal information like documents
2. Some race conditions connected with torrents and video.

Just let eBoostr work. We are adding more smart staitistics in every release.

I've found that in eBoostr's \Lang folder, you can remove all the languages except for the one you're using. If fact, if you're using the English Language, you can even remove the entire \Lang folder. I've tried both of these methods and not experienced any problems.

To prevent all those unused language files from being automatically cached by eBoostr, it seems to me that the eBoostr installer should prompt the user for the language he wants, then copy only that language file to the installation folder. It's wasteful of both cache memory and disk space to keep all those unused language files.

This is not a force on eboostr part, just a suggestion for user that have little cache space and or just wants to exlucde things from their list to make the current cache size smaller. I also suggested someone to just make a list, so here it is. Theres more on the fourm. I'm just to lazy to look atm.
