The current configuration appears to work with my XP without problem. However, the my Beta Key appears to not have automatically updated with latest downloads. When starting up my computer I receive two messages regarding registering the new revisions. The forst informs me that I only have 2 hours trial on each start up and the second informs me that because the download occurred after my key expired the new revision will only work in Demo mode.

Do I need to load a new Beta Key for full functionality of the latest downloads and if so, where can i obtain it from?

The eBoostr software, display that it use it, but not Windows 7 x64. (If i go to Windows Task Manager, or an other program that display memory available, it display 6 Gig available.

I have been testing 4.0 Beta on both desktop (Intel Q6600 w/XP SP3) and netbook (Atom N260 w/XP SP3) for at least four months, and no trouble was identified so far. Here’s my impression of Beta 4.0:

When considering the cold boot time, eBoostr will be the most effective for the system consists of Windows XP, Slow HDD, and fast USB drive on USB 2.0. A person who has such PC will clearly realize this tool is effective.

Once OS is fully loaded, then SD card would become a better cache device than USB drive. Using system RAM for cache may be a bit risky (therefore a warning appears when I try to make the function available, I guess…). For those who have faster PC, I recommend to use Class 6 (or 10) HCSD as cache device, and accelerate applications by adding in the priority list. In this case, we cannot expect drastic change in the boot time because the PC does not recognize SD card until OS loads the card reader driver, unlike USB drive, which is recognized at BIOS level.

I wonder if we can separately manage files when building cache, like; OS system files required at boot stage to USB, and other OS files and application files to SD or RAM. I think this would maximize the benefit of this tool.

I'm led to believe that ReadyBoost in Windows 7 has borrowed some of eBoostr's features. For instance, I understand that it is no longer limited to a 4GB cache size, and also that you can pin applications to the cache as in eBoostr. Is my understanding correct? How do the two stack up in terms of features and performance?

Yesterday I added a Lexar SDHC 8GB PRO 133X to eBoostr, tried formatting it with exFat, tried NTFS, and the results were horrible. I had to repair MSOffice and Firefox, Thunderbird almost disappeared, som other programs ended to work so today I finnished removing the SD Card from eBoostr. Tried with and without Superfetch and Prefetch but nothing solved the problem. My system is Windows Vista 32 bit, 3 GB RAM, 1023 MB unmanaged memory and 500 MB NVCache for eBoostr. ReadyBoost and ReadyBoot disabled. I wonder if there is a limit of 4 GB cache for this card to be used with eBoostr?

I check cache contents, and I only see files under the c:\ cached. I swear in xp pro x64 it was caching some other drives, but with win7, I specifically only see files physically located on the c: partition cached. I have files on the d: e: and f: that are mounted to folders on the c:\ and these are the ones I'm not seeing cached (such as program files (x86))

In Vista 32 bit Prefetch doesn't work if Superfetch is deactivated. One nice tweak is to activate Superfetch only for boot and Prefetch for both boot and applications. So, if you're using eBoostr you may deactivate ReadyBoost, related ReadyBoot and Superfetch for applications. My computer is now running silently without that inicial HDD noise and almost in a way that only XP did.
I'm convinced that, if ReadyBoost is activated and we're using Intel TurboMemory in NVCache, eBoostr accelerates this cache that's why speed measures are so high (in my system about 10 times more then without TurboMemory). Maybe if there was an option to exclude NVCache we could try another configuration in order to optimize everything but ReadyBoost cache.
Configs: Total memory installed: 4GB; RAM: 3GB; eBoostr Unmanaged Memory: 1GB, NVCache: 500MB.
Greetings.

Using Beta 4.0 Build 544 in XP Pro SP3.

Installed 2x2 GB RAM, in addition to existing 2x1 GB RAM, for a total of 6141 MB (same brand, speed, timings). eBoostr reports *8184* MB available of 6141 MB total. However, it also reports 2559 MB unmanaged, which is accurate, and it seems to be using this memory without any issue (gets a 58.5 ratio).

This is a neat option.

Say I have a laptop
I'm looking for a SSD to install.
There small and expensive.
So I want to keep my old SATA HD that's 100GB.

So I buy a compactflash 48GB for about 150.
I put my windows files and documents on this drive (I split the partitions and map the folders to the appropriate partitions).

Then have my program files on the old sata.

Now there should be a way to setup eboostr to cache my Program Files (the sata) drive to the expresscard ssd even tho I have system files on the SSD.

What I'm thinking (I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking it's not going to let me) is Eboostr isn't going to differentiate what files are on what drive, and secondly I don't think it's going to let me cache to the ssd if I have system files on it.

Another third option was to abandon caching the program files to the ssd, and just go with a flash drive, and cache the program files to the flash drive.

This last option I think is more realistic. As the program doesn't differentiate what drives I can eboost, it probably determines which drives are choking and which need help.

Again I haven't tried, I am going to soon. Probably by this weekend when I get the SSD.

I read a bit in this forum but it seems you do not have many netbook users besides me.
The Laptop I write this on is an MSI Wind U100 netbook
Following Config:
2GB Ram
Intel Atom n270 1.6gh
Intel Postvill G2 40GB SSD with newest Firmware (Trim support)
Win7 Ultimate 32bit
512mb Ram Cache Eboostr
200mb dataram Ramdisk used for temp, tmp,ie cache, firefox cache.

Average system speedup is reported as 46%
I mostly use this netbook for Firefox, Thebat, Adobe Lightroom (only if I am on Holidays) and some java apps.
the look an feel of the system is very pleasing.
And I think it helped the battery runtime a bit. I am over 8 hours on my 9cell with wlan and bluetooth.

I did try ebooster and ramdisk on my main system too....but it isn't as noticeable.
Seems like Win7 is using the 8gb ram and raid0 raptor harddisks with the 4gb usb cache allready very effectively.

If you want me to run some tests, even some time consuming ones, tell me which and I will do it.....just give me a full-licence ;-)

This idea is primarily for gaming, though it may affect other applications. Many games use large archive files for storing media resources. While these files are large, they are often accessed in a random fashion. Sometimes there may be a single PKG file that has almost all of the resources for an entire game. This will be passed up by caching systems like Eboostr and ReadyBoost because it's assumed that large file == sequential access. I would propose that max file size can be specified, and possibly based on mask and/or path. This will allow users to restrict most of the files in cache to very small files, but selectively load certain very large files known to be content archives.

I am curious if anyone else has input on this?

Make eBoostr launch ahead of all other applications during boot-up so that it can begin caching all the remaining applications that start on boot-up. Then, add a right-click option to the Cache Viewer so that selected items can be added to the list of Priority Items. This should result in reduced boot times if eBoostr's Cache is large enough.

Added:
Perhaps this should be an option. It may not be desirable in all situations

To save disk space with ram caching, why not just create a database of files that are to be loaded into the ram cache vs. actually having a store on the actual hard drive.

What do you think about using CleanMem (http://www.pcwintech.com/cleanmem) with eBoostr? Is it advisable or not? I have it installed but I don't know if it is a good idea as I am afraid that it shall clean eBoostr cache if using ram. I would appreciate an answer if you please. Thank you!
My old Windows XP laptop has 2 GB Ram and I'm using 500 MB as eBoostr memory cache.

Every time I throw this switch, the app locks up, and runs both threads on the CPU at about 50%. I've let this go for hours, hoping it's just a buggy user interface and a high effort search, but alas . . .

This is a Toshiba NB205, which is to say an Atom N280, and 2Gb of 667mHz memory. I have 338mb allocated form main memory, and all 8Gb of a Lexar 8Gb Professional SDHC( http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sdhc-memory-card,2143-3.html ), reformatted into FAT32 as recommended in the app.

(Direct access speed: 11.247554 Mb/s
Cache enabled access speed: 21.476002 Mb/s
