I have an HP-HDX18 notebook with two 128 Gig SSDs & 8 Gig of ram. I downloaded eBoostr 4 Beta more out of interest than any real hope that my system times might improve as it was already very fast.
I devoted 4 Gig of Ram & 4 Gig of my second SSD & populated the Application Acceleration list with the programs I use most often like Visual Studios 2010 Beta 2, Outlook, Word & Internet Explorer. Well, I am vey pleased to report that the system is actually quite a bit faster.
I would say that overall, my programs are starting up anywhere from 30%-50% faster. I am also quite surprised that the boot up time is only one second slower when one considers that the 4 Gig of Ram has to be sectioned out & populated during boot up.
I did notice that my Ram Cache would be rebuilt one or more times if I ever left the machine idle for very long. Being that I am running SSDs, this was not too pleasing to me as this would cause the SSD drives to write anywhere from 4 to 12 Gig, depending on how long I left the machine idling. I am happy to report though that putting the machine into 'Sleep Mode' (NOT Hibernation Mode!) takes care of the unnecessary writes to the SSD & maintains or keeps the ram active & yet not rebuilding.
I would suggest that the eBoostr design team consider an option to turn off auto-rebuilds of the cache for SSD users & let us decide when we want our cache rebuilt with proper warnings & etc.
Thank you very much eBoostr team for a product I am certain I will be buying!
Best Regards,
Wayne
**** EDIT **** ADDENDUM **** I have just noticed that the cache was rebuilt while I was using the machine; probably becuase I had all the programs shut down except Internet Exlporer. As I began to open Visual Studios & Outlook, I did notice that the hard drives or SSDs were accessed directly instead of via the rebuilt cache which no longer had these programs cached. I opened each program & then rebuilt the cache manually & found that they now open mostly (90%) via eBoostr cache. I really would like to control when that cache is flushed & rebuilt, especially being that I run SSDs.
