Suggestion: Hide eBoostr Drive
First of all, I like to say this is wonderful product, way better than the built-in ReadyBoost of Vista.
I was wondering if the finished product can include the option of hiding the device (i.e. USB flash disk, memory card, etc.) being used as the eBoostr drive. I’m currently running the latest beta version (3.0 build 479) on my laptop running Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit SP1 using a 4GB Transcend class 6 SDHC card which is mounted on my laptop’s built-in card reader, and it seems to be running great without any hitches. However I was planning to make this a permanent thing on my laptop, and since the memory card will be used solely for this purpose it would be great if it could be hidden from the rest of the system while configured as the eBoostr cache device.
It’s a minor item, not a necessity but a “nice to have” feature, I mean not having it would not stop me from using this product, but again, it would be nice to have.
Thank you.

You can hide the drive letter using computer management / disk administration. eBoostr supports devices without drive letters.

Hi mikei, thanks for the quick reply, I did what you suggested, now the SD-Card is invisible to the rest of the system, however under the eBoostr control panel it still shows the drive letter originally assigned the device, would this be an issue if I plug in another device like an external USB hard disk and Vista assigns it the same drive letter?
Thanks in advance.

I believe after a system restart, the letter would be removed as mine is not there after a system restart.
By the way, eBoostr seems to be smart enough to detect the device that you’ve set up as its cache device.

It is good to know that this solution. However, for the end users point of view the ability of hiding the eboostr drive letter by using the menu in eboostr might be a better option than go to control panel. Make it easier to use is better than make it complicated for end users. Just my thought.

programatix: You are correct, after restarting the system, the cache device was not assigned a drive letter anymore, thanks for the reply.
Sanya: This was more of my point, so I totally agree with you on this.
Again, as I mentioned before, it is a minor functionality that would not prevent me from using the software.
Thanks for all the replies.

yes this would be a good feature to have, however it should only make the drive disappear when using a card/USB with an eboostr cache on it. The drive letter should come back again when you plug in another card/USB, otherwise you have to keep going to the disk management to re-assign the drive letter again.

Ok, one thing about removing the drive letter under computer management, it can no longer be ejected under the eBoostr control panel, and once you plug it in again, Vista assigns it a new drive letter, so you have to go back into computer management again and remove the drive letter again. After you have to stop the caching and restart the caching under the eBoostr control panel for it to work again.
