Hard Drives showing eBoostr Control Panel cache drives window

By davebt34 | January 1st, 2009 | 12:00 am

My Local Hard Drives showing eBoostr Control Panel cache drives window over night.

See below:

eboostr-extra-hd-drives

I checked my XP system, yesterday and the hard drives were NOT showing.

The system runs 24 x 7.

The ‘HAM_RADIO’ hard drives can not deleted or be removed by any method.

WARM BOOTING the XP system makes the phantom hard drive displays disappear.

My one of my phantom cached hard drive has reappeared. It appear after time system goes over midnight to the next day, and the cache rebuilds as far as I can tell, any you get phantom, C root drive in cache drive view. I warm booted at 11:00 PM, then only the real drives showed the cache drive window. When check the system at 7:00am or 11:00am there was no phantom drives. Checked the system at 2:00PM the a phantom drive had returned. I will keep checking later in the day for more phantom drives

Check the system log for delayed write failures or any anomalous behavior that corresponds in time with the phantom drives. Also check to see if any disk tools may have been fiddling with the eBoostr.dat cache file… Or maybe your antivirus is closing eBoostr’s file handles to the cache. (Scheduled scan forcing the closing of file handles?)

    Just a few thoughts.

    Colonel,

My system has only starting showing phantom drives since I loaded Ver 3.0 483 of eBoostr, so it is a bug in the program. Ver 2.0 never showed any phantom drives on my XP camera system that runs 24 x 7 and I have NOT changed any software on that system since I changed to Ver 3.0. Another phantom drive appeared over night, now I have two, and number three should appear after midnight to night. So as a programmer myself I think eBoostr has time stamp issue in the code. eBoostr is a great program and Ver 3 is lot faster than Ver 2, but this bug will have to be fixed, as I do not wish to reboot all the camera systems I look after every day.

    Ahh I see, I misunderstood your question… :(

Having not used any disk caches in eBoostr myself, I have only seen the System Memory icon ever in there. Does the phantom drive persist after closing and re-opening the Control Panel?

    Colonel,

On my XP system, I have only ever setup an SD of 4 Gigs and System Memory cache of 256 Megs, NOT any hard drive caches. The ‘HAM_RADIO’ hard drive shown, is my system C: drive, which does not exist as cache, can not be deleted, can not build a cache on it, so it is totally a bogus or phantom cache drive. Exiting the eBoostr control panel and then restart the control panel does not make the bogus phantom drives disappear. Only a XP system WARM or COLD BOOT makes the bogus phantom drive disappear. This is program BUG that only appears, if an XP system runs 24 x 7. I get a new phantom drive every 24 hours ! Bottomline it is a program BUG !

Pleased to see the phantom drives bug has made the list of known bugs. My XP system is now been running for three days (24×7) and I now have 3 phantom cache drives, one per day. If the programming team has trouble duplicating this issue, and needs me to check data etc on my system, please feel free to contact me for that assistance. If you have a patched version you wish me test, send file to me, and I will happily test the code for you.

I did more testing, and found the phantom drive C: cache drives are only created if a memory cache has been created which creates the ‘c:\eboostr.dat’ file. Deleting that file stops the phantom over night drive display from being created. Hope that helps
