App priority settings ignored – V3.0 b483

By EvilROo | January 3rd, 2009 | 2:33 pm

It’s been 3 days since I installed the 483 version. I have selected a few applications to have a priority. Some of them are in my Program Files folder (C:\), some are on my secondary partition (D:\).

It appears that eBoostr cached only Windows system files (DLLs, fonts, etc.) and a few of (C:\) apps with priority – the rest has been ignored.

I switched back to version 471 to test it. This version caches every listed app imediately. No problem then.

Things I tried with no effect:

1. Total reinstall of eBoostr 483 (with restart of course)

2. Total re-cache (holding the ALT key when building cache)

3. Checked the Exclude list for forgotten entry: D:\

4. Cleared Priority list, cleared Exclude list

5. Disabled/Dealocated the System memory device – used only flash disk and vice versa

6. Several system restarts with applications starts (I tried to raise the access count)

None of those tricks worked.

I hope there is a simple solution of this problem. As I mentioned before: version 417 worked well.

My PC specs:

Notebook Acer Aspire 3020 – XPhSP3 – 2GB RAM

Using eBoostr RAM Device (512MB) and A-Data Flash pen 4GB

I don’t know if this solution will work for you. Exclude all the drive C:\ and D:\ then rebuild your cache ( it must be an empty cache 0% ). Then remove C:\ and D:\ from your excluding list and rebuild your cache.
    Hope it works.

Hmm. Strange, for me, eBoostr will cache any application it wants… It was able to cache other partitions the same way (even without certain programs being added to the Application Priority list.)

Strange – Yeah I know. Version 483 still refuses to work properly. I have already reinstalled it three times. Tried Cris’s trick, but no effect. Maybe I should try a Virtual machine to confirm it. I’ve got installed the 471 version instead (works fine but the 4 hours functionality isn’t enough =) ). It’s better than no eBoostr installed. The speed is quite addictive =). I don’t know, how to describe the problem better to help. When any suggestion appears here I would install 483 again and test it.

EvilROo, how do you examine the cache content? Are you use cacheviewer or statviewer?

There was not any changes with app priority. Just some magic with file distribution between caches and with files order (to let files to be read sequentially).

I use the Cacheviwer. I start it via application menu. Maybe I should check the statview too.

But I am pretty sure that priority files are not cached, because the LED on my flashpen does not blink much.

May be most files was inserted to RAM cache. In this case there will not be blinks.
Statviewer will let you know which files are read by application. Please let us know if files of prioritized application is not cached
