Build 538 Unmanaged Memory

By freddy67 | October 15th, 2009 | 4:05 am

I have just upgraded from 536 to 538, once installed it detected my unmanaged memory & opted to use the unmanaged plus normal system totaling 2gb leaving 2gb for normal use (XP sp3). It built the cache & began to use, I minimized the application to the system tray & my system froze, I attempted a couple of reboots but after my programs loaded my system kept freezing. I uninstalled in safe mode & re-installed without using hidden & all is ok, this is the same outcome as I had with build 536.

This happened to me as well.

Using dell latitude d820 laptop with windows xp sp 3. After I upgraded from 536 to 538 and restarted my computer, first symptom was that the screen resolution dropped to 640 x 480 and one of the displays didn’t show anything. I restarted the computer again, and then I started to get bluescreen of nonpage memory error (or similar, sorry didn’t write it down). I then entered to safe mode, and as ebooster was only thing I had installed recently to my computer I reckon’ed that it’d be the root cause of the failures and uninstalled it. After that computer started and worked normal. I used only one device in ebooster, a system ram of 500 mb.

Hi Freddy! Your case is very interesting for us. Could you please to make one small experiment? Try to setup unmanaged memory RAM cache with small size like 64MB. Please write the result, will it work or not?

    Thank you.

I have set up 64mb of unmanaged memory Ram cache as suggested & my system has been using the Advanced Memory Cache for about 30 minutes without any problems (I have been using the internet, excel, access & shutdowns etc to test in this time).

Thanks a lot, Freddy. I think we will be able to fix this problem now.
      Just couple questions:
How much unmanaged memory eBoostr shows in config dialog?

As far as I understand your system freeze fast enough in case of big cache?! (it should be so if my guess about the reason is right)

Can you try to find the maximum unmanaged size you can use without problems?

      Thank you.

The unmanaged memory is 1279mb, I will experiment & find out at what level the system begins to freeze.

    Thanks

I went up in stages 128, 256,512,768,1024,1280mb. When I attempted the 1280mb my system froze, I then tried 1200mb but system froze again, I am currently using 1024mb without any problem.

    Thanks

Thanks. The last one question :) (forgot to ask)
What phisical memory size/Total is shown in Windows Task Manager on Performance Tab?

My system froze earlier & when I checked the event log I found a ‘Driver Exception in eBoostr Service’ error, so for the time being I have gone back to using system memory & flash.
