Problem with previous version 3 (last stable build) & Drive snapshot

By merle1 | October 15th, 2009 | 8:01 am

Sorry for being slightly off topic : I keep having BSOD where eboostr V3 is involved, when dismounting a virtual drive created by Drive Snapshot.  WhoCrashed says it’s eboostr.sys, while the BSOD says it’s a regular windows file, sr.sys, that caused it.

I have installed the lastest 4 beta version, and will see if its keep happening (after a full backup ;-)  ).  If I don’t report any problem, this will mean that V4 solved this.

No thats not off topic here. Is this VD being used for or as cache drive when you run eboostr?

Doing a quick search I found that sr.sys is a driver
Description: File sr.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. Known file sizes on Windows XP are 73,472 bytes (92% of all occurrence), 70,400 bytes.

Here a fixs I found too:

Hope it helps, need anymore help I’ll try my best to.

Thanks. Will try that and let you know. For the moment I have uninstalled eboostr, desactivated SR (I will also need to stop the service). And try again !

    A quick update : I have
    – removed eBoostr 3 & 4
    – removed Shadow Defender
    – disabled System Restore
Now it works fine again. I will re-introduce one by one the removed elements and see if it happens again.

    Hi again,
I have re-installed eBoostr 4 b 538 and this time I can mount and unmount virtual drives from snapshot-created images. I yet have to try Shadow Defender again & System Restore to see if that changes.

But so far so good with this new version.

    Hi again.

I have now re-installed Shadow Defender (in off mode), and I experience no longer crashes when using drive snapshot. The only modification was XP system restore. I can now guess this was related to a corrupt restoration point.

eBoostr V4b538 still runs fine. The only thing have have noticed is the following : when I stop caching, disable my USB readyboost flashkey, remove it, and then stop eBoostr service, this service starts again after a few seconds. Isn’t it supposed to stay off ?
