Version 4 Beta Program Period Extended

By Andrey Zarudnev | November 11th, 2009 |

As you may probably noticed we have extended the Beta Program for another month and it is now expected to end on December 1st. An additional month was added due to the new functionality featured that was not originally planned—automatic configuration wizard that will help you to detect all available devices and create a recommended cache configuration based on the device performance.

My Beta license already expired. What should I do?

Latest version 4 builds already has an extended Beta license valid till December 1st. If you were beta testing version 4 from the beginning then please update your license with the following data:

New build 539

By Andrey Zarudnev | November 6th, 2009 |

We have just published a new build 539.

It contains some experimental code to operate with the “hidden memory” that should fix the issues reported in the forum. If you had system freezes with the unmanaged memory use then please retest and report if any issues still there.

New automatic configuration wizard

Automatic configuration recommendation

A brand new automatic configuration wizard will thoroughly analyze your devices available, measure their speed characteristics and give recommendations on its use. An old manually configuration dialog box is still present in case you’d like to perform some tweaks or add/remove any device.

Please note! This wizard contains some new experimental code that requires administrative privileges on Windows 7 and Vista. Please make sure to run eBoostr Control Panel as administrator on those operating systems. This requirement will be removed in the next beta versions.

If you have your Beta license expired, please check the following page for an updated one (valid till December 1st):

New build 538

By Andrey Zarudnev | October 14th, 2009 |

New build 538 that was just published has some major updates in “unmanaged memory” detection and initialization code. This build contains only these fixes. Those of you who have issues with unmanaged memory, please confirm if your problems are fixed or not. Thank you.

Sorry for the long delay with this release :)

Build 536

By Andrey Zarudnev | September 22nd, 2009 |

We have just published new build 536.

It contains the following updates and fixes:

  • Fixed freezes on unmanaged RAM check and cache load
  • Windows 2000 speed check procedure corrected
  • New settings.ini parameter to set cache rebuild behavior (see below)

Cache rebuild behavior

Once an hour eBoostr service checks if your computer is idle and updates the cache contents. We have added a new parameter “idletimebuild” which allows you to set the amount of time your computer is actually idle to start a cache rebuild. This value is given in seconds and is equal to 60 seconds by default.

Example: You often leave your computer idle for short periods of time (phone calls or college chats for example) and eBoostr automatically starts cache update. You get back to your desktop and cache rebuild is interrupted before finished leaving not fully filled cache or outdated file contents. Now you can set the value of actual idle time for the eBoostr to start cache update. Set it for example to 10-15 minutes and cache will be updated only during your lunch time or a long meeting.

eBoostr Beta 535 (6729 downloads )

Build 535

By Andrey Zarudnev | September 11th, 2009 |

New build 535 is available for download.

It contains several fixes found in the first beta build:

  • Exclude and priority operations in cache viewer fixed
  • Cache file naming changed to correctly handle dual-boot systems
Please note! Due to this changes you have to manually remove all your caches before upgrading from build 529
  • Application priority list on Windows 7 fixed
  • And several other minor issues

As the build 529 becomes incompatible with the later builds (due to cache file naming change) it will not be available for download from now on.

Announcing Version 4 Beta

By Andrey Zarudnev | September 1st, 2009 |

We are pleased to announce the public beta of eBoostr version 4. The program is scheduled to run until November 1st. As usual the most active beta test members and bug reporters will receive a free license for the product.

What’s new in version 4?

Use hidden system memory for caching

Overcome Windows 32 bit limits and use your full amount of RAM

The main new feature of this version is an ability to directly use “unmanaged” system memory to cache you files. eBoostr overcomes Windows 32-bit system limitation and can utilize hidden memory above ~3.25 GB limit.

Redesigned cache configuration

Another major new feature is a complete cache configuration flow re-design. Now you can manage and configure all your cache devices, cache file sizes (including quick resize) with an easy one-step procedure.

Hidden memory available on a 8GB machine with Windows 7 system

More updates to follow

There are still some new functionality in development that will be featured in the next Beta version update releases, including:

  • optional cache contents encryption;
  • flash memory use speed improvements (especially USB flash drives and SSD);
  • and more…

We invite you to evaluate upcoming release of the new version 4

Build 490

By Andrey Zarudnev | January 23rd, 2009 |

OK, here goes the last round of testing. Build 490 containts the following fixes:

  • Service failure with custom statistics database location (on Vista) ( # )
  • Temporary files are now correctly deleted ( # )
  • Duplicate devices listed in the Control Panel fixed ( # )
  • Occasional BSOD on Windows 2000 with USB cache devices fixed ( # )
  • Updates in Portuguese (both) and Finnish translations

Today we are announcing code-freeze so there will be no changes in the code except critical bugs fixes (which I hope will not be found.) Help file and translations will be updated before the release on January 28th.

Previous build 487 can be downloaded from here.

And the current version 490 goes here:

Build 487

By Andrey Zarudnev | January 19th, 2009 |

Hello Everyone!

Another update build 487 posted and I hope this one is the latest.

There was a small bug found in the cache free space detection (and it prevent the cache from further filling if you have exactly 8GB of free space available) that was fixed in this build. Also this build contains an improvement in handling non-latin filenames and locations (now works with Eastern Asian and Japanese languages.) Finally Windows 7 should be correctly detected during the installation procedure as a supported OS.

All of this changes are not critical, so this build will not be available in the auto update–please download it manually.

Thanks.

P.S. Previous build is available here, just in case.

Another try — build 486

By Andrey Zarudnev | January 16th, 2009 |

OK, here goes the new build with the fixes that were found in the “bad” 485 one. The issues were caused by an incorrect exclude list handling and a new code added for a better applications search. Small bugs with “big” failure results :)

For now we will not distribute it through an auto update till we receive at least several confirmations that it is working fine. I ask everyone who experienced issues with the 485 build to try the new one, please. Confirm if you have or not any issues with it. Thank you.

Build 484 (just in case) goes to:

Sorry for all the inconvenience we’ve caused with this “buggy” release.

Build 485

By Andrey Zarudnev | January 15th, 2009 |

Hello Everyone!

I am happy to finally get back to the office and it’s time to get back on track.

We are releasing a new build 485 (which will probably be the last before the official version 3 release) that has several minor fixes and improvements:

  • Exclude functionality improved to correctly handle apostrophes in pathnames and incorrectly entered filemasks
  • Fixed column resize in the “Exclude List” dialog box
  • Applications search improvement (it now discovers OpenOffice installed)
  • Romanian language added
  • Some corrections with the error reporting (dump files)
  • Fixed “First run” notification in case of multiple users

We still have many missing strings in the translations. Please mail us at beta@eboostr.com if you are able to translate the program to your language (100% translated are only: Russian, Chinese and Japanese.)

We are coming very close to the final version release so we are closing new beta testers registration today.

Thanks!
