Beta Failure

By Zach | November 20th, 2008 |

I have attempted to use the eBoostr Beta version and do to many Blue Screens I have had to un-install and revert back to the latese version of 2.0.

I run an additional monitor on my laptop using XP Professional and every time I would attempt to save a large MS Word file the system would fail and shut down. During the day I will normally run with 20 “Applications” open and 80 “Processes” open with no difficulties what so ever using version 2.0.

The Beta version will need to be up and running without the BSOD difficulties before I will be able to load it once again.

Thank you for this opportunity to test your new version.

Application priority

By TheSAS | |

Application priority  doesnt show all programs. Espesially OpenOffice.

Maybe you add feature, that add files whatevere you want from folder.

Puzzling Microsoft Word crash

By leblancj | |

After installing the beta version today and setting up my Sandisk titanium to host the cache, I ran into problems running Microsoft word (see attached image). The program PPTminimizer was not running and it is not listed in Word’s addins. Word crashed and presented this same image over and over again. Even exiting eBoostr did not stop this behaviour; I had to uninstall eboostr. Only then did Word run properly.

Suggestion : Build Cache on Demand

By rav | |

Currently, I installed eBoostr build 466 and the program likely re-build cache when system idle. This make my HDD hotter and may shorten my HDD lifetime. it gonna be better if I can choose to build the cache only when new program installed or major system changed  and left my HDD idle without auto-Building cache progress.

After adding a device, the size shows 0

By programatix | November 19th, 2008 |

Hi,

I installed eBoostr to 3.0 build 466 on 1 Windows XP machine and 2 Windows Vista machine. On one of my Windows Vista machine (laptop), after installation (and restart process), I added the RAM device with default memory size (800++MB) and after it is added, the size for RAM device on the Control Panel is 0kb. I tried removing it and readd it and the result is the same.

Anyway, a 2nd restart solves the problem. And of course, I couldn’t reproduce it.

When should I click the Build Cache button?

By programatix | |

Hi,

After initial Build Cache, should I keep clicking this button as time goes on, or I could just ignore it? I noticed that sometimes when I clicked it, both my 512RAM and 4GB Flash Drive will be filled to 100% and sometimes, it just reduced to 50% or so. I can’t find any explaining for this button.

Hope somebody could explain the use of this button.

Thanks in advance.

How to set priorities for the different cache devices?

By Emile | |

Hello,

All is in the title.

I use Ram and USB sticks.

How to set RAM as 1st priority? and allow priorities to the USB stics?

Thanks in advance.

Suggestion: option to hide Tray icon.

By Martin | |

It would not really be useful while beta testing, but I think the final versions should have an option to hide the Tray icon.

After a while, the cool needle animation is superfluous, and the app is (intended to be) set-and-forget.

A user could re-display it by clicking the “eBoostr Control Panel” shortcut again. (Of course XP has it’s own tool to hide Tray icons, but that’s unreliable, and not universally used).

Suggestion: UI to restart the eBoostr service.

By Martin | |

On build 466, I had an apparent (but unrepeatable) lockup while using the app speed measurement tool, needing me to kill it via Task Manager. Doing so apparently killed the “eBoostr cache managment service”, because the Control Panel was running, but showing the “System Status” as something like “Service not running” instead of “Active”.

But there seems to be no menu or toolbar item to restart the service.

I did it easily enough via the Services tab of Computer Management, but many ordinary users might not be familiar with that.

I think another Edit menu item would be a good idea.

(Also another Help menu item, for the eBoostr SpeedMeasure Tool ?)
