Hello,
1/ Allow compressed drives/folders and files
2/ Allow the user to create the eboost.dat file so that we can defrag that file and allow file placement.
Thanks in advance
In 484, the caching algorithm got the majority of the necessary programs. Overall cache hits had 12 bars after a bit of exclusion tweaking.
Side note: On my XP laptop, hovering the progress bar gives me percents. On my 2000 desktop, it doesn’t.
In 486, it has begun caching deleted files in the RECYCLER folder:
I:\RECYCLER\S-1-5-21-1343024091-1682526488-854245398-500\DESKTOP.INI
ignoring my exclude rule: I:\RECYCLED\
Overall cache hit is was 6 bars at install, 7 bars after excluding things.
Recommend the addition of default exclusions such as RECYCLER on each partition, %localsettings%\Temp, and Temporary Internet Files.
I’ve noticed that the current forum style organizes topics by date posted.
IMHO, for eBoostr 4 (hoping there will be one =D, and hoping it’ll still support Windows 2000), It would be great to see a forum like the MSFN’s forum instead, where topics are organized by last action made to the thread. (Pretty sure it’s phpBB2.)
A sticky for the Bug List can stay on top, be edited, instead of being sent out of view after a day or two.
Then again, that’s just my opinion. =)
If I dual boot and have eBoostr on both, then eBoostr uses the wrong files (cache) on the second OS.
An easy solution would be to make a settings file or something (in AppData folder) that contains the locations of each of the devices. Then when switching OS’s it would just read the AppData file on that OS and get the correct file.
I hope this can be impliemented by 3.0 release :)
Thanks,
James
I use Build 484. My questions
1.) Will there be a function in the list for addable applications to see in eBoostr before adding an application to the list who many RAM it uses/needs?
2.) Although I added RAM-hungry programs (data encryption) to the list of applications this seems not to influence the usage of cache fill. Independent of which programs are running, the cache fill will move between 31 % up to 92 %.
I hope this will help.
On a single processor laptop with a slow HDD, a cache rebuild robs other applications of needed resources, e.g. response times become sluggish. It would be nice if there were an option to make a cache rebuild a low priority (or background) task. This would be particularly useful when during an idle timeout cache rebuild the computer is “awakened” by a mouse movement. In this case, an option that automatically lowers the priority of the cache rebuild would allow the user to continue to work with better responsiveness from the computer. Thanks.
Hello,
I have now upgraded to Build 487. But still I see the bug in Control Panel which I reported earlier.
BUG 1:
When you do the steps below, you can see the same Drive shown twice in the Control panel. Please see the screenshot below.
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/2628/2drivesua0.jpg
Steps to reproduce:
1) When a USB Drive is being used in eboostr, ‘Hibernate’ the system without removing the USB Drive from the System.
2) Once the system is completely hibernated, remove the USB Drive from the system and start the System again. Once the Computer is completely restored from hiberantion, you will notice that the eboostr Control Panel will shown the Drive as ‘inactive’.
3) Now insert the SAME usb drive into the system and NOW THE CONTROL PANEL WILL SHOWN 2 SAME USB Drives as in the screenshot shown below.
BUG 2:
1) Even in the Build 487, I see that the Menu ‘Application Priority’ is still shown in the ENGLISH language itself, even though I change the language. For eg., change the language to ‘Esperanto’ and you will still see the Menu item as ‘Application Priority’ only.
Bug 3:
Except for the Introduction page, all the Pages are not complete in the ‘HELP’ pages.
Bug 4:
I still see the Copyright as for the years 2007-2008 only in the ‘About..’ screen. If this is STILL right, then you can ignore this. :)
Thanks.
Well after the annoucement of the latest release i just test a few different version again.
Build 473 is for me the fastest response delay, let’s explain what i mean.
Response delay on mouse click seems to be faster on 473 than all other release. I use a phenom quad core with ramcache disk plus in the 650 mb unused memory on xp.
I don’t know if this could be true or an impression
Hello Everyone!
Another update build 487 posted and I hope this one is the latest.
There was a small bug found in the cache free space detection (and it prevent the cache from further filling if you have exactly 8GB of free space available) that was fixed in this build. Also this build contains an improvement in handling non-latin filenames and locations (now works with Eastern Asian and Japanese languages.) Finally Windows 7 should be correctly detected during the installation procedure as a supported OS.
All of this changes are not critical, so this build will not be available in the auto update–please download it manually.
Thanks.
P.S. Previous build is available here, just in case.
