Hi there,
I’ve noticed the following behavior when running eBoostr 3.0 (Build 491).
When (re)building the cache, the EBstrSvc.exe eats up dramatically more memory with each iteration and does not release this anymore. After a while this results in eBoostr taking up most of my (virtual) memory, causing my computer to slow down to a crawl (“page thrashing”). I’m not 100% sure yet, but I suspect this also happens when the automatic (background) cache-update kicks in, thus causing long-running machines to run out of memory.
I work ‘around’ the issue by issuing the following commands now & then :
NET STOP “eboostr service”
NET START “eboostr service”
Some statistics on EBstrSvc.exe : (obtained from ProcessExplorer)
Situation / Private Bytes / Virtual size
after restart / 3,504k / 22,212k
build cache 1 / 152,192k / 188,624k
build cache 2 / 296,716k / 330,584k
build cache 3 / 440,416k / 472,554k
build cache 4 / 582,576k / 617,492k
build cache 5 / 726,104k / 759,452k
build cache 6 / 867,252k / 909,604k
etc…
This sequence is rather consistent when repeating the tests.
FYI : I have 1 USB stick, NTFS formatted, with a 4Gb cache on it (83% used).
If you’d need more info, feel free to ask.
I had to use windows restore for windows xp after a microsoft update.
Restore was completely successful.
But system would not boot up completely.
I had to uninstall eBoostr in safe mode to boot the system.
This is possibly caused by different file versions in eBoostr cache/files.
Hello, eBoostr stopped functioning properly.
Now I get this:
Andrey,
I had to go back to version 2 on xp. 3 is slow on my laptop. Thanks.
Curt
Do you have any plan to port this beatyfull program to debian/linux?
For whatever reason, I found an ancient 64MB USB flash drive. And in attempting to use it with eBoostr, the program indicated that there was 61MB of free space on the drive. And the minimum is 64MB. Woot.
Is there an ini or registry entry I can add/change to allow caches below 64MB?
Yes I know I have a USB 1.1 Bus. Yes I know old flash drives were slow. But still, it’d be nice to be able to do that.
I don’t know why the software can not find the device.
I exchange the device in the 3USB ports and the software can not find it.
I restart my computer and i don’t see changes. I tested with other pendrive, and nothing.
What’s up?
You can always count on me to be your beta tester for any product that you develop. I think its a great team and, I expect and wish you the best!
hi.
3.0 build 491
When rebuilding of the cash works, I become BSOD.
Contents of BSOD are “Page Fault In Non-paged Area”
thanks.
