filestat.dat?

By Martin | November 26th, 2008 | 9:10 am

1. What is it for, please?

2. How big will it grow? (Mine has about doubled to 2.8MB so far).

3. Can I move it to a location different from the default %AppData%\?

    1. This is statistics. Information about how often files are accessed and which files are worth to be cached stored here.
    2. That depends from disk size and number of accessed files. On large disks it can grow up to 100mb. For average configuration it is under 10mb.
    3. There is no such option in eBoostr. But you can try to do it by symbolic links. if there is need to free some space from your system drive you can move whole “Aplication Data” to another location.

    Thanks for the info, and for the workaround suggestions.

    My entire Application Data folder (minus filestat.dat) is only 5.5MB, and so a potential 100MB file seems disproportionate there. It’s not so much the available disk space, but the bloat in (frequent, for that folder) backups, for something that can be easily left to rebuild itself if disaster strikes.

    I have some search and dictionary tools which similarly default to that folder for their (large) databases, but they have options to change locations.

    So I’ll use a symbolic link or junction point if mine grows much more, thanks.

    But I’d put this forward as a feature suggestion for a future build.

    Ok. Please do the following:

    1. Create settings.ini in ‘all users\application data\eboostr’
    2. insert following strings (just change e:\tmp to apropriate folder):

    [eBoostr]
    StatPath=e:\tmp

    this setting will be available in next build.

    Thanks. Do you mean that it will only work from the next build? Because 471 seems to ignore it (even after a reboot).
