Build 479

By Andrey Zarudnev | December 19th, 2008 | 3:12 pm

Finally the new Beta build is available. This one may be named a “Release Candidate” because it is the last one that features new functionality. We are coming really close to holiday season and seem that our initial plans to release an official version 3 this year failed.

OK. We have to extend the Beta Test Program for an additional month and schedule the release date to January 15th 2009. In order to extend your Beta license, please use the following license data:

If we still have the license code from the first betas (pre-1.0) don’t those still work?

Also, where is the “settings.ini” located?

I think it was a good idea to show only one “System Memory” icon because there isn’t any explication about the fact we can place ram cache in a choosen partition. One of vista partitions is the recovery wich i think is not the ideal place for ram cache. Anyway, like fastest963, i ask where is the “settings.ini”? In Windows Registry-HKCU-Software-eboostr-eboostr-settings?
At January 15th are we going to have eBoostr only for 4 hours after boot or will it be deactivated for good?

    Hi, …

Can it be made in eboostr,

= An option, to [temporary disable “Vista, Windows7” ReadyBoost]

fastest963, your old license will work fine. “Settings.ini” file is located in the “Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\eBoostr” folder. Sorry I didn’t remember the needed parameter to enable RAM cache file partition selection. Will post an update on Monday.

zPedro, when the Beta Program finish–all active Beta testers will receive a personal license for the product. The one posted above is valid until February 1st.

sst, personally I do not see any need in such a feature. You can just stop the “ReadyBoost” service to temporary disable it. This can be even done with a batch file:

    net stop ReadyBoost
    net start ReadyBoost

    Hello, Your download is corrupt.

    Thank you very much, Andrey!
In Vista there isn’t “Documents and settings”. I still have doubts about what is faster: eBoostr System Memory alone, System Memory and SD card, or, eBoostr System Memory with Windows ReadyBoost. This last one config seems to the faster one and the slower, the second option (the configuration i’m using right now).
SST: To stop ReadyBoost permantly, go to Services, ReadyBoost, stop and disable.
    Merry Christmas for everybody!

    Correction:
“This last one config seems to the faster one”. It’s lacking a “be”, of course and sorry :)

    Hi Andrey,

the new version runs stable so far… when I’ve notice any errors, I’ll let you know.

As the others mentioned: The settings.ini is not located in the Application-Data-Folder – in fact there is no “settings.ini” on my whole pc. (as far as I can believe the windows-searche-engine! ;-) )

    Greetings

Just downloaded this latest beta and will notify of any bugs I find. I had the beta 473 installed and even though I had the box for not poping up the licenmce box it kept popping up anyway during windows boot.

First, booting does seem much faster.

I attempted to upgrade to the new build and rebooted. Afterwards I noticed that it was inactive. I had to go in and manually rebuild the cache and re-enable my device.

I left the cache build running and walked away. My computer crashed while I was gone. It rebooted and right after I logged in, it crashed again. After the next boot, all was well.

Note: I have no proof (looked around event viewer, etc) as to what caused the crashes. If I was to guess, I would guess it wasn’t eBoost at all and was some other stuff going on (it would be very long to type up so I wouldn’t). Just mentioning it in case anybody else has issues.

Dang, just crashed again. I’ve turned off eBoostr so that if I crash again, I can eliminate you all as the cause.

    This is Windows 2003 SP2.

Okay, I’ll try to shortly explain all that is going on. The same day I installed 493, I also installed a ton of MS patches including SP2. Then that evening, I got hit by a Trojan in a PDF file (Thanks, Adobe). Norton caught part of it (claims low risk) but I found and eliminated more of it manually that Norton missed (I’ll skip all my cleanup details but I was very through) – I’m 95% sure that it is completely gone. I’ve also upgraded AcroRead to the latest to hope that will prevent future problems.

If anybody can tell me how to tell what process is running when Windows dies (no BSOD, it just starts rebooting), please let me know. I’ve been through event viewer with no success.

So at the moment, I can’t tell you if it is the latest eBoostr build (the old one never caused problems), Windows Patches, or lingering Trojan stuff (note: I’ve done

I’ve been running this on two Toughbook CF-M34’s, 1GHz, with 1.2Gb RAM in each, only difference is one has 2Gb memory stick and 60Gb HDD, the other a 8Gb stick with 100Gb HDD. Both have indentical software, both are used extensively on battery, so keeping R/W’s to HDD at a minimum by using this program has helped extend battery life. I did a comparison in Nov. with only one unit using eboostr. Checked battery life in both, then switched batteries. Then switched units with eboostr, and batteries again. The results showed a clear improvement of battery life of 40 minutes in one unit and 30 min. in other May not seem like much, but it can mean the difference in having to shut down to replace with fresh battery or not. Now I usually end up using only 2 batteries per day instead of three.

Bad News – no Windows crash in 24 hours after removing eBoostr. I was crashing every few hours since I installed 479 (I had the wrong version number in the earlier post).

this version really boost up my HP 2133 Mini with scandisk Extreme III SD CARD.

Seems to work fine after I deinstalled previous version.

Noticeable improvement in all programs. I use 256meg RAM and 2 GB on a Flash Voyager. Speed test shows about a 9:1 advantage. I also loaded programs onto Flash Voyager. This has yielded great improvements also.

Slowest things now are the servers. I wonder if this product could help the server also.

The build 482 works just fine on my old P4 2.4 with 512 MB running on Windows XP SP3 and the speed increase is noticeable. However, the previous beta build 479 build did not provide any speed boost for me.

Could you please elaborate on the new cache format? eBoostr did not ask for a rebuild of the cache file after the upgrade.

Build 479 seems to run very well on my XP-SP3 system. I particularly like the context menu to assign priorities and quick exclude options. Very handy.

    Andrey!!!

Many thanks to your most wonderful software eBoostr, it made my programs especially the programs I use in the internet come alive and fast. No crashes to report here. I loving more my PC now…

Could you please add these into your future versions of eBoostr? 1) Could tweak or adjust with the speed of the modem/router. 2) Compression of internet data whether download or upload or just plain browsing. 3) Will not disconnect internet when inactive/idle. 4) Will you try to hide us? Hehehe

    Hi colbi,

Is it reasonable to ask the developer to add internet related features in a RAM cache application?

  24. steve30x
    Jan 27, 2009

Ive been testing EBoostr with about 2 months and find it to be better than Readyboost in vista. I have found that when I set application priority in Windows 7 the EBoostr control panel seems to freeze on the first save but after that it runs fine.

OhForgot to ask if it would be possible to add some files for games to be boosted to help loading speed in some slow loading games?

    Jan 31, 2009

    Hi Programatix,

IMHO, I feel this program will hit big time soon and I feel optimistic that eBoostr will evolve to somewhat an important utility that will blow away TuneUp2006/2007/2008/2009.

Well Windows started well as a file manager same as the norton commander plus the GUI.

I know Andrey is thinking about this, slowly but surely, any changes or modifications in a program is already a stage of evolution.

    Keep me posted Programatix…peace…
