Cache Viewer Suggestion

By sailorsonic | December 9th, 2008 |

I have a suggestion, can you add to the cache viewer a way to add exceptions easily? I often view the cache and when I find something I do not want cached it takes forever to make that excempt.
A right click command like add to excempt, or a do not cache, with the option to be the folder path (to be able to edit the path would be great too), file or file ext would make it the program so much more user friendly

Current progress

Sorry I missed you all last week, I was out sick, and didn’t have the chance to write and comment here. But I’m back in the healthy saddle again, so here we go.

Currently we are preparing the latest build that will have a new code featured. This will be the gradual RAM cache loading in order to decrease the boot time delays. If there will be no problems found with this functionality then the next build will be the Release Candidate with the help file finished (and hope all translations.)

An announcement of a new build will be later today or probably tomorrow. Thanks for your help :)

temp file and allocating cache error

By steve | December 7th, 2008 |

eboostr (beta 473) seems unhelpful once the cache is filled 100%, and upon rebuilding cache, the allocating process takes 20 minutes and showed an initial error something like “-3434543o5494Mb”, once it’s done with the allocating, the cache building process was very slow…

also, eboostr seems to only cache certain system and application files, wouldn’t it be nice to have it cache all the temporary files as well?  – just put a limit there in terms of how much space should be used for temp files and how much for sys files, otherwise, it’s not really significant in terms of reducing hard drive activities….

Very nice performance so far

By freshmetal | |

Hi, I’m using the Beta 473 on Acer Aspire One 120GB HDD model with Japanese Windows XP Home edition.

Working very good so far. The cache file is only in 8GB SDHC Class 6 Memory card but its making the boot speed very high and satisfing.

eBoostr reduces the HDD access and makes HDD temprature is low and quiet. I think eBoostr can extend the HDD life so much.

As you know that SDHC memory card is not suitable for so many reading and writing but 8GB Class 6 SDHC only worth about 9 dollars or so in Japan. Its better then the HDD crash.

Will report again for more long time use and bug reports. Thanks to the developing team! Its really nice software!!

Build 473-Promising so far

By Dopey | |

Have downloaded the Beta, build 473. So far, the results have been good. Have a cahce set up in RAM as well as a USB (LEXAR Mecury-1GB) on Win XP Home Edition. There’ve been only two problems that I can find so far. In the Application Priority list, I’ve noticed that soem of my programs don’t show up. Primarily, the ones that I was looking for were: Mozilla Thunderbird, OpenOffice. I think Firefox showed up. Would be nice to have a browse feature (Could look for my own .EXE, .DLL files). Although these apps eventually get cached anyway, I would like to have given them soem extra priority, esp. since OOo can take so long to load (I’m running a Quad processor here!).

Second problem was speed measuring test (the one where you can select your own program). Outlook Express (default app chosen) worked just fine. Mozilla T-Bird wouldn’t even get through Phase 1. For me, this is a minor thing, being that I’m more concerned with customizing the program to suit my needs (ie, getting OOo to load a bit quicker).

I’ve also tried this app on a few VM’s though I haven’t tried in in Vista yet (plan to soon though. Still getting used to VIsta). I also intend to run thsi app on an OLD Dell laptop with a 700mHz proc, 256GB RAM, and 10GB HDD. Mostly use this for MS Streets and Trips when I’m on the job, but would like to see if maybe it will make the computer perform better.

Deleted files

The cache viewer still shows deleted files, even after several “build cache now” operations.

When and how are deleted files removed from the cache?

Good Performance

Win XP becomes faster when login. No problem even after hibernation…The page of registration pops up everyday, and I need to press the button “update” each time, I don’t know if it is on purpose. My computer is having 2GB ram, when I insert a 4GB SD card, it only utilises 47% as cache, I don’t know if it is good or not. It crashed once only, actually it freezed when I was playing the online-game “WOW”, but no more after I reboot the computer. The function “Application priority to accelerate” is not so useful, it only focus on the xxx.exe, I can’t select a whole folder! I can imagine how nice it’ll be if the bulgy game “WOW” (10GB in size) can be run in the ram. Just a suggestion.

Ebostr Icon does not show up

By xrak | |

Ebbostr cannot be found in System Tray after Windows XP started.

Even after manualy starting, the Eboostr Icon does not apear.
When I click on minimize to info area, the Programm is gone. When I start it again, the System seems to have been running, because all my Units are green, but I cannot make it stay in the Info area.

Athlon x2 on ECS A780 Mainboar and chipset. WinXP SP3 all updates included. 2GB Ram.
2 SanDisc Cruzer 4GB & 256 MB of System Ram used for Eboostr

Windows XP Limited User Account Registration

By Ben | December 6th, 2008 |

In windows XP eBoostr will not register under a limited user account. Modifying the account to administrator to register the program and then returning the account to limited causes the register account message to pop up again.

It works fine under trial mode though.

So far great!

Using 4GB on an fast 8GB sdhc card and it makes my Aspire One ao150 downright zippy. Foe example pre eBoostr Word 2007 takes 7secs to load first time after startup and 4 secs subsequent starts. With eBoostr it stats in less than 2secs all the time.

While the difference is not a significant amount of time the difference it makes in the feel of the computer is incredible.

So far not even a int of a bug and I have been using it for 4 days.
