Can’t Remove

By zlab95 | September 30th, 2007 |

For testing I used 2 cache device:
1° PenDrive 6Gb (see by OS as HDD) with 1Gb cache allocated
2° SD Card 1Gb with 256Mb allocated

When I used only the second, to remove it no problem.
Using both drive the only way to remove the SD was: close the program, remove the device (physically), restart the program and finally remove the cache device.

Multi USB flash bug

By Louie | |

I was previously using the kingston 4gb usb flash for eboostr, it was working perfectly.

Then I decided to plug a camera flash into an external usb flash reader, the kingston flash stopped working the instant i plugged external usb reader in (error: one of the usb storage has mulfunctioned). And the kingston flash worked again when i pulled out the external flash reader. Tried this serveral times even after computer restart, problem is not fixed. This problem occured before i even tried to use the external card for eboostr.

Max 2Gb?

By Louie | |

Why max 2 gb when readyboost supports 4gb?

Also that initiating cache box is annoying… cannot minimise the program while it’s doing that.

Eboost SpeedMeasureTool

By Louie | |

The installer creates a shortcut in startmenu for eboost speedmeasure tool, but cannot find the file. I cant find the file in the installed folder either.

First impression

By zlab95 | September 29th, 2007 |

On my Pc (P3 800Mhz, 512Mb) program works correctly, the only problem was:

  1. removed cache device from control panel, OK
  2. removed device by XP, OK
  3. reconnected device, XP Crash (2 times)

Resolved problem closing the control panel before to remove the drive.

Suggestion:
could be usefull if by controll panel, user could increase or decrease the amount of memory allocate in the drive like XP virtual memory manager.

Impression:
System works correctly, led on drive always blink and the time to open a program was decrease a little bit.

Bye

My yesterday night tests

By KillerBoy | |

Suggestion 1:
The installation
I’ve seen you ask to reboot machine but it’s NOT necessary.
You do this for starting the eBoostr Service but you can do it with a “net start” command.

Suggestion 2:
Time to allocating cache file is very high, it’s irrilevant for allocating on hd but if you use a usb 1 the time for a 300MB file is 5/6 minutes.

Suggestion 3:
I think it can be useful an attach/detouch method for who use more than one memory so you can detouch a memory card for using, for example, in a camera without lose any cached information but archiving that in hd for example (with same method you can resolve the timing for allocating cache file building it on hd and then moving).

Bug 1:
On my old pc (Pentium III 450MHz overclocked on 503MHz with 64+128MB RAM)
when I restart the machine it’s going in a crash loop
for starting it I must select the last running configuration so the eBoostr Service is “not installed”.
If I install the service with the srvinstw the restarting goes normally and service is correccly installed.

Bug 2:
On my old pc (same as over) when I have deactivate the xp virtual memory I’ve obtained an abnormal termination of the eboostr control panel (you can see the info from the attached file 436b_appcompat.txt)

Considerations:
On my old pc (same as over) I’ve never seen the card reader blink with or without xp virtual memory configured so it seems not properly working.

In the cache content I’ve never seen nothing (with or without pressing the Build cache now button and I don’t know why)
Application launched Kworld PC-TV, Gimp, Picasa, PE Explorer

On the laptop (Pentium M 1.7GHz 1GB RAM) with xp virtual memory configurated I haven’t seen intersting changing.
Without the virtual memory configurated with c# express and vwd running the Build cache now button produce some effetcs (the cache content contain some information) but not in automatic mode
Disk access is riduced but not a lot

Why I need to click on the Build cache now for generating cache content? I think it must run automatically and store more used file, so it’s useful. It can be possible that need more time for calculating statistics? But in this case you can always insert some file and calculating it at a second time

For now if I use e fixed sized xp virtual memory it’s more efficient but I hope it’s because it’s very young.

eBoostr VS Readyboost

By provolino | September 28th, 2007 |

Ciao to all developers and beta testers ;)

I’m trying the app on my Windows XP MCE and it seems to works fine, my pc has 2gbs on ram but I still can see some improvements.

On my pc I have dual boot with MCE and Vista.

I performed some comparisons and I can say that Vista ReadyBoost technology works better (my pc is much faster with it) but it’s because eBoostr is still in early stage I guess :)

Byez all,

Gigi

Testing the first beta of this tool

By ch0zen | |

First I’d like to thank you guys for this software, it should be a really anticipated feature for WinXP.

I noticed there’s no possibility to estimate the cache building initial process. Sure it won’t take that long – at least as long as a lot of small files will be written to the flash. Anyway a rough estimate will be nice to have.

The second issue I am really concerned of is the speed of my flash drive. How could I know if my pendrive is good to work with eBoostr or is poor and there will be no noticeable boost anyway? Maybe I should rush out to buy a new flash stick marked “ReadyBoost Compatible?”

To be continued .. definitely

thanks to all

Eboostr instead MS Virtual Memory

By antimodes | |

hello everybody,

my last post was very useless and i tell everybody my excuses. This time i will try to do something better.

I allocate a 256mb of cache on my 2gb pen. The file was allocated but, even if i open a tons of program, pen’s led does not blink, so the o.s./eboostr does not use it. Ok.

I saw that there was allocated by Windows virtual memory al least 670Mb. Then I set it to OFF and restart the PC.

When it restarted, of course, a ballon tip suggests me to increase virtual memory. One more time no pen’s led does not blink.

I set virtual memory to 100/200/400/800 but nothing was different.

I try to use another usb pen with the same cache file but it did not work at all.

Now the magic questions is:

Is there any way to use Eboostr  instead stupid MS virtual memory?

A readyboost usb device can change something ?

I mean, as you can see over, i try different way to use an external usb pen but without any success, i think.

Operating system is Windows XP Home with SP2

Thank you to everybody

Memory size?

By zlab95 | |

Hello,
I’m using an USB pen with 1Gb of free space, but I can set only 256Mb for cache; when I try to allocate more than 256Mb an error box told me that no enough space was available.
It’s a limit by the program?

No! It’s a bad Pen, using another pen all works fine.
