Exclude list does not work

By hkcivg | January 29th, 2009 |

Hello

I am using build 484 for awhile.

I use my USB thumb drive as eBoostr cache location and I have a RAM drive (mainly use as windows and application cache location) in my laptop as well.

Besides using my USB thumb drive as eBoostr cache location, I also store files and applications in the drive.

In the light of this, i include both the USB thumb drive as well as RAM drive in my eBoostr exclude list.

Today I check the eBoostr statistic and find that files access for these two locations are cached. Is it an unknown issue? I have not tried the latest eBoostr version as there were feedback in the forum about various issue of the builds after 484. So I am not sure if this has been addressed in the latest issue.

BTW, will the license expiry of the beta be addressed?

thanks

eBooster 3 Beta Much Better after New Memory Stick

By cc | January 28th, 2009 |

A couple of weeks ago I reported that I was having problems with the eBooster 3 beta. The database on the memory stick (Coby Electronics memory stick) appeared to have become corrupted. After removing the beta and the memory stick, I discovered that the problem was with the memory stick itself. After plugging it in to my Vista laptop, ReadyBoost didn’t want to have anything to so with it – it said the device was too slow. the casing also pulled off of the memory stick when I tried removing it from the USB slot. After purchasing a new Kingston memory stick and re-installing the beta, eBooster has been running very well. Am looking forward to using the release version.

Beware of lesser-known brands of memory sticks! you get what you pay for!

Not necessarily program related…

By Colonel ONeill | January 27th, 2009 |

…but I was thinking that most program websites offer a few static screenshots,
Couldn’t a flash movie be made to represent the likeness of eBoostr and be manipulatible by the potential customer? I read somewhere (in this forum or on the website) that the simple interface was a Unique Selling Point, so wouldn’t a cool ‘interactive screenshot’ be something to help sell the product?

Ability to schedule cache rebuild

By Doug | |

I’m assuming that it is beneficial to rebuild the cache periodically.  If my understanding is correct, it would be nice to have a scheduler so we could schedule the cache rebuild for a “down” time.

Thanks.

Build 490, All good

By sailorsonic | |

Greetings,
First thankyou for including my suggestion in a pior build. The right click on the cache viewer makes it so much easier to customize.  I think that was build 479. Ever since then I have not had any problems that I have seen posted.
490 works well, nothing bad to report. I look forward to seeing the final build.

Thankyou once again.

System tray icon (build 490)

By Tom | |

The eBoostr icon does not initially appear in the system tray. I have to open it using a shortcut, Exit and restart it a couple of times before it actually minimizes to the system tray. Minor, but still annoying as I like to have access to it from the system tray.  I have experienced this issue since version 2.0, but it is getting worse.

Build 490 – no problem so far, except something related to the license

By merle1 | |

Hi all,

I recently installed the latest build 490. So far so good. My setup (which hasn’t changed) is the following :

  • Compaq EVO N800 with 512kB RAM
  • XP Pro
  • A single USB flashkey readyboot compatible, 1GB, plugged into a USB port

I had the feeling that the previous one was making my PC experience slighly faster but that’s hard to be sure of that.

I keep however to have a warning message regarding the license that says :

eboostr1

license warning message

(the license key has been deleted for privacy reasons!)

I am not sure this is related to V3.

Some files are being cached twice.

By Colonel ONeill | January 26th, 2009 |

With two cache devices, a few files are being cached in both devices.

1. Wouldn’t this be a waste of space? Couldn’t it be cached in one device only?

2. Does eBoostr move more commonly accessed files to a faster cache device?

3. When eBoostr does it’s cache build, does it adaptively select which files to keep and which files to replace in the cache?

Does it keep track of how many times each file is accessed when caching is active? If so, does it use this data to sort cache files by access hits? It would be cool if it would keep files accessed above a certain threshold, (e.g. at a cache build, keep the 50% most accessed, and would rotate cached files until it finds that optimum balance?)
