Problem With Start And Stop of build cache

By fastest963 | October 2nd, 2007 |

As I would have guessed, the build process % resets after a start and stop of build process.  Isn’t the start supposed to resume the build from where it was left off, leaving the % where is was at the stopping point?  Also the building cache… (??%) should not blink as it can get annoying and create the false sense that for a moment the build is over. (maybe it’s just me but I don’t like it)

Please check the information page for more details on what should be tested during the “BETA 2” stage.

ebooster beta 1 causes system instability…

By trykedog | |

at least with my setup. for some reason task bar icons failed to launch programs, got “stuck” in the depressed position. In addition, usb mouse and trackball both seem to be affected and cease to work. I am not through testing, but at this point i need to do some work and can’t mess with it. I’ll install beta 2. it does seem to speed the loading of some programs, xp in particular. I’ll try to get a larger flash drive for future testing.

Network storage

By livio.morina | |

Why do u support an external drive connected by USB/FireWire and network storage is not supported?

I can’t select z: that is a SATA remote disk (\\server\cache  dedicated to eboostr project) installed on my homeserver.

one day of testing

By LR Fox | |

I’ve been testing the program all day as part of my normal workflow. I am using a 512M cache on a usb 2 sandisk titanium cruzer drive. This computer has 1G of RAM. Things seem to be faster but I have no way to exactly measure the results. I timed the loading of both Photoshop and Quark. Perceptually they seemed to load faster with eboostr engaged but when I loaded them without eboostr the times were actually the same. It was the same result with loading large documents into each program. As a buyer of this product I would need a convincing way to measure the gains. I think it’s a wonderful idea for a product since I have a slow poke PC at home and would love to be able to get some additional speed out of the its current confighuration. I’ll try it there tonight. Keep up the good work. I believe you are on to something important that would have wide appeal.

First Tests

By eriathorn | |

hello… i tested eboostr in my intel core duo laptop… firefox, photoshop, and acrobat reader loaded faster using only a 485mb  cache, i also tried some games, using a shared memory graphic adapter and seems to have decreased loading time and improved the access to available memory for graphics use during the gameplay (a little bit faster on fps). Problems with today’s users are the lack of information they posses about their hardware, that’s why you really should implement a wizard that just picked the right device configuration for them, based on the specs. A comparation chart in the speed test would be nice too… Only one system freeze but was with a disabled vm config. Work soon on the available language packages too. Know i will test it on a celeron laptop with only 128Mb ram (hoping it will really help it), and on a pentium III 1000MHz 512Mb ram that i use as internet server on the house. more feedback soon…

Good starting

By bubuz | |

Hallo,

i tryed the beta.

Installation was ok. Setup was ok.

Good performace with 1Gb of cache.

Some problems with usb device changing and a crash ok the ‘eboostr service’.

(no information in the event viewer)

Some problem with allocation of a 2Gb cache file. It resulted in a ‘eboostr.dat’ of zero Kb in the usb device.

User interface

By livio.morina | |

A)
The windows looks a little too big, it isn’t usefull.
I’d like to keep the program “always on the top”
to allow me to check ‘live’ what is the load of the HD / Cache.
A small-interface should be implemented so users (testers now)
can see performances in a corner of the monitor and test it better.
It will be usefull once the program will be released too,
it can help to find best settings for eboostr.

B)
I’d like to get an option to allow eboostr to get exclusive access to a device.
Once I set my pendrive as “EXCLUSIVE USE”, the letter of the drive has to
disappear from my system.

C)
Once I select SHOW CACHE CONTENT, I see some files (links or other stuff) that
I forgot to have. They are died on my desktop and they have been cached.
I’d like to have an advanced way to tell the program
“unload from the cache”
“never cache this/these file/s”

D)
Once I select FILE>EXIT it disappear from the taskbar, btw the cache is always
ACTIVE. You should add a message like “You are going to close eboostr,
but the CACHE DRIVE is still running”

—————-
I’m testing eboostr on a P3 1000, 2×256 MB (100/133MHz), USB1 and a 256MB pendrive.
The drive looks a little small to increase performance, btw I noticed that this laptop is working better in some case.
I will test the program with other hardware soon.
—————–

I’m pretty sure that I forgot to say something, btw I will make a new post if needed

Cheers

Livio

I’ve noticed a problem when adjusting size amount of chache disk by up and down buttons. Problem is becouse the comma is not recognized.

Tutorials

By Knux | |

I work with a lot of people who don’t know very much about the computer, so I’m just suggesting maybe some tutorials for use. I thought of this first for new beta testers applying. When it asks someone for certain things, such as what processor you’re using or what type of USB port you have, maybe there could be a small tutorial that shows where you can find out said information.

Also, to appeal this software to a more broad variety of people, maybe make the main message “Speed up your computer!” or something simplistic like that. That would include the people that may have no idea what an ‘OS’ is, but still need their apps to load faster.

Just a few suggestions. Great software! I’m definitely recommending this to friends and family.
