Okay, maybe the help file isn’t done yet, but what do the statistics represent? How is “weight” determined? What exactly does 100% or 50% or 5% cached mean? How is it calculated? Wouldn’t it be helpful to see how many times a file is hit? Or how about misses? Or attempts on files which are excluded? Is the cache/disk ratio bars representing total bytes? total files? What is the time-period of Overall cache/disk hit ratio? (Is it since last restart?) Anyway, I hope some details are shared so we can better understand whether eBoostr is helping the best that it can!

Just to update you re: build 485.
My system: P4 2.8 GHz, 512MB RAM.
Upgraded from build 484 and so far everything is working fine as far as I can tell. I’ll test it some more on this and my other machine and update later as necessary

tried to install version 485 3 times

saying unable to install and need to stop program sorry for inconvenience
revert back to version 484 which works fine

Have uninstalled the previous beta and after a reboot, installed build 485. Upon installation there was an ‘unable to update system tray’ error.
The ‘cache meter’ in the system tray still doesnt work – I’d expect it to open the eboostr control panel upon clicking it.
Restarted after install and selected applications for caching and ran into an immediate problem: the cache cannot be built. Once the cache building starts the eboostr service is terminated. Automatic caching does not work, as well.
I’m unable to test the software on other machines at this time – I’d like to know if it’s an SP3 specific issue or is manual configuration necessary.

Build 484 is the fastest yet. eBoostr is reporting the cache random read speed on my SSD as 51390 KB/s which is up from about 47000 KB/s in previous versions. The SSD is capable of about 63 MB/s.

Hello,
New eboostr user here, I stumbled upon this software from browsing the eeeuser.com forums and did some review browsing on google – being able to use flash drives as system cache on low RAM systems is a boon, especially as I was experiencing random slowdowns while running multiple applications plus antivirus and antispyware in the background.
It pays to mention that if your computer has something in the region of 2Gb RAM then this utility wouldn’t be noticeably effective in increasing performance, but being one whose light use of computers, and relatively short lifespan of equipment, I have dictated not upgrading anything if at all possible.
I installed eboostr beta 3 on my EeePC 701SD and set 512mb of the installed 8Gb SDHC (on internal card reader) to the cache and started running my everyday programs. After a short while I noticed that Firefox’s loading time had decreased to a mere handful of seconds where before there would be a significant period of lag (around 10-20 sec) if I fired up the software-controlled 3G modem and related internet programs at the same time.
With eboostr I’ve experienced far greater system smoothness in web browsing and office software usage. I know, in the end eboostr costs quite a bit for the full version but in some parts of the world, 2Gb RAM does not sell for $10. Being able to utilise unused flash memory and the USB2.0 subsystem to increase general performance, especially those of demanding applications with frequent disk access, is an innovative solution.
Bugs/Suggestions:
1. Eboostr displays in the system tray but doesn’t seem to respond to anything. I need to manually enter the start menu to bring up the control panel, etc. I’m using WinXP SP3 on an EeePC 701SD.
2. It would be brilliant if I could manage the cache file from the detailed file display itself. I noticed the booster had cached some mp3s before I could specifically exclude it in the options panel. Rebuilding the cache just for that is a hassle.
3. Eboostr’s application scan seems to overlook OpenOffice. Had to create a shortcut on desktop then drop it into the priority applications list.
Muchos gracias if anyone read this far.
– Carmen

The files and locations included in the “Exclude list” are not fully displayed. I cannot see the entire path of each item in the list. Even after resizing the window, the items in the list to do not expand. I have no idea what the times are.

I use Visual Studio 2005 a lot and it does not appear in the list of applications under “Application priority”. However, all the utilities that come with Visual Studio 2005 do appear.

Hi,
What needs to be done to make sure this beta 3.00 does not expire in 16 days.
Let me know.
Thanks.
