Current Progress : 2.0.2 version

By Andrey Zarudnev | July 18th, 2008 |

Hello Everyone!

First of all sorry for not writing for so long. It’s summertime. Vacations, fun and relaxation, nobody can be reached neither by phone nor by email :) I hope you understand what I mean :) Anyway the product is not dead and the development continues. Right now we are publishing a new version for you to test and if everything will be fine–it will be released to the public.

2.0.2 Version

This update should fix a seldom error reported to happen with using RAM cache with modern video graphics cards that also uses the system memory to store textures and other stuff. Both of them are so memory hungry that can allocate it too much–without leaving it to the system. If you ever had a boot hang up on any of your test machines, please check if the current version fixes the issue.

Mike and driver development group improved load balancing mechanism (gives a 20-30% speed increase if using two USB devices according his tests.)

In addition this build has a new feature that may really useful in some cases (thanks to obsidian who also mentioned it.) You can now quickly unload the RAM cache to free memory for other application that needs it.

Release candidate version 2.0

By Andrey Zarudnev | March 28th, 2008 |

New build 415 is now available for download. This is the latest beta build and it is considered our Release Candidate.

Our developers were really not impressed by the results of the RAM cache boost in the previous build. So the RAM cache mechanism was totally rewritten in the current version. Its initial build, updates and load on boot are now much faster and smoother. In addition the application speed measure tool was also significantly changed to get more accurate results.

Here is the list of the updates at a glance:

  • RAM caching mechanism improved;
  • Application speed measure tool improved;
  • Bug with a fragmented cache file fixed;
  • Two new languages were added: Belarusian and Japanese (that is 15 new languages for the version 2);

Unfortunately still no Vista 64 bit support, sorry.

If there will be no critical errors found then the new version 2.0 will be released officially on April 10th.

Version 2.0 Beta is Out!

By Andrey Zarudnev | February 11th, 2008 |

Hello Team! The new Beta testing period is started. The version 2 Beta is published.

What’s new in this version

Here goes a quick list of the additional features with more details below:

  • Memory caching (if you have plenty of RAM installed);
  • Exclude list (the most requested feature);
  • Power saving mode;
  • More than 4GB cache file size (on NTFS file system only);
  • One flash drive use on different computers;
  • Unlimited number of files in cache;
  • Build cache process improvement (including initial statistics used from XP prefetch information);
  • Load balancing mechanism improvements;
  • And many small fixes and changes.
  • Almost forgot :) And 10 new languages were added.

Memory Cache

If you have more than 1GB of RAM installed you can use some part of it to place a cache file. Computer RAM has an extremely high read speed and a zero seek times–thus you can get up to 50x higher overall random read speed. We do not recommend you to leave less than 1GB of RAM available to the system after adding a cache. However you can try this on your configuration, may be your applications installed will be comfortable with the amount you leave.

Exclude List

There were numerous requests for this feature. Now you are able to specify any location or a file mask to be excluded from caching by eBoostr. Be careful with this feature! If you exclude the “C:\” location, then all files located on this drive will not be cached–thus non of the system files or applications.

Power Save Mode

This feature is very useful for notebook (laptop) users. When your laptop is on battery power, eBoostr will automatically go into Power Save Mode. This mode disables an automatic cache rebuild and redirects all file requests to cache devices. Flash drives consumes much less power compared to “power hungry” hard disk, increasing your battery life time.

Translations for version 2.0

By Andrey Zarudnev | January 30th, 2008 |

Hello Team!

I am proud to announce that we are coming very-very close to the version 2.0 Beta (actually we plan to release it on February 4th :)

Due to the new features and changes in the user interface we need to update all translations before the official 2.0 release. Please check an updated post “Translators Wanted” on additional information to be translated.

Update 02/04: Unfortunately, the release of the version 2 Beta is delayed. Our QA found some critical problems with RAM caching feature.
